Practical experience alongside scientific research has highlighted significant shortcomings in the developmental performance of contemporary societies. This, in turn, underscores the growing need to rely on futures studies as a rigorous scientific and methodological approach, applied objectively and systematically, to support informed decision-making, mitigate risks, and enhance the achievement of strategic goals.

Accordingly, Kuwait International Law School has dedicated its Twelfth Annual Academic Conference to examining these challenges. The School invites academics, members of the judiciary, researchers, and specialists to submit original and high-quality research papers employing critical and comparative methodologies. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for authors of accepted papers.

Conference Themes:

First: The Science of Futures Studies and its Relevance to Other Sciences

§  The concept of futures studies, their scope, their methodological bases, and their relevance in a changing world.

§  The distinction between prediction, forecasting, scenario building, research and planning.

§  The role of uncertainty and risk in methods of futures analysis and studies.

§  Futures studies tools, methodologies, and techniques.

§  Building and governing futures studies knowledge used in future studies.

§  Presentation and analysis of applied models.

Second: Future Studies in Legal Sciences

§  Anticipating the impact of laws and regulations before enactment: ​​models of flexible and proactive legislation.

§  Emerging challenges and the ability of legal systems to adapt to respond to change.

§  Future studies and the balance between innovation and the protection of rights.

§  Regulatory experimentation and the creation of future rules: testing solutions before general application.

§  Predictive justice, regulatory foresight, and conflict prevention: from conflict resolution to prevention – digital justice

§  Approaches to proactive law – drafting contracts and legal systems and the role of early compliance in reducing legal risks.

§  Presentation and analysis of applied models.

§  Anticipating Changes in Values ​​and Social Identity

§  Monitoring Early Social Indicators of Change – The Role of Foresight and Technology in Future Societies.

§  Trends in Societal Security – Social Justice.

§  Future Scenarios for Demographic Changes: The Future of Values ​​and Social Relations.

§  Presentation and analysis of applied models.

Fourth: Future Studies and Technology: Impacts and Interactions

§  Artificial Intelligence and the Analysis of Future Trends

§  Big Data and Future Modelling – Examining Digital Technologies Between Efficiency and Risk

§  Ethical considerations in the use of Artificial Intelligence

§  Algorithmic Bias and its Social and Legal Implications.

§  Data Security and Future Privacy Protection frameworks.

Fifth: Enhancing Future Studies in Educational and Research Curricula

§  Specialized and general programs and courses incorporating skills in future thinking, forecasting, and scenario development.

§  Practical training tools for measuring and developing foresight skills.

§  The role of research partnerships between universities, economic sectors, and civil society institutions in anticipating future educational, economic, and social development needs.

§  Frameworks and guidelines for integrating future studies programs in educational curricula and research.

§  Presentation and analysis of applied models.

1-    Participation Policy & Conditions:

v Submitted research must address a clearly defined topic that aligns with the conference themes and topics, include new and innovative ideas, employ a critical and comparative methodology and a direct approach, and it must not have been previously published or presented at a scientific conference.

v Participants must be faculty members, members of the judiciary, or specialists and researchers in the fields of legal, social, and technological sciences.

v  The conference organizers encourage undergraduate students, as well as master’s, doctoral, and postgraduate researchers from Kuwait and abroad, to take part by submitting work related to the conference themes. A dedicated session will be set aside for the presentation of their accepted research.

 

2- Submission Procedures & Important Dates:

v Abstract (maximum 500 words) and a brief CV with a list of publications must be submitted by: February 15, 2026.

v Authors will be notified of acceptance by: February 27, 2026.

v Authors must adhere to the publication guidelines of the Kuwait International Law School Journal and its supplements.

v Full research papers must be submitted by: April 10, 2026.

v All submitted research papers will be subject to peer review. Authors will be provided with the reviewers' reports to address any feedback before April 18, 2026.

v Research papers will only be considered accepted after approval by the reviewers.

v Final research papers must be submitted to the Conference Committee by: April 25, 2026.

v Accepted papers will be published in the conference supplement of the Kuwait International Law School Journal, a peer-reviewed academic journal published regularly since 2013. KILAW Journal adheres to international academic standards and was ranked second in the 2024 ARCIF index of the Maarefa database among the most influential and cited Arabic legal journals, having met 32 ​​criteria that align with international standards.

v Papers may not be published in any other journal or periodical without the prior approval from the conference organizers.

3- Formal Guidelines:

v The maximum word count for a paper is eight thousand (8000) words. The minimum length is five thousand (5000) words.

v Font for Arabic research: Times New Roman, font size: 14, line spacing: 1.15.

v Font for English language research: Times New Roman, font size: 12, line spacing: 1.15.

v Footnotes: Font: Times New Roman, font size: 10.
